Campaign Kickoff Event a Success!

May 17, 2018

MĀNOA – OHA At-Large candidates Makana Paris and Pohai Ryan were joined by family and friends at their Campaign Kickoff event on April 30 at the Waiwai Collective in Mānoa. The evening was filled with laughter and aloha as both candidates shared their vision of collaboration and service.

“It was a humbling experience to see hundreds of friends and family show support for me and for Pohai as we take that step into public service for the betterment of the native Hawaiian community,” said Paris.

Pohai Ryan is a former state senator (2010-2012) who represented Kailua and Waimānalo. “I feel humbled that I am able to share a campaign kick-off with a young emerging leader like Makana who is caring, educated, and grounded. The good attendance was a statement from Kupuna and the community that they want us to succeed and help them by serving in OHA. People gave what they could $5, $10, $20 and more. Mahalo mahalo mahalo!” Ryan said.

Makana Paris sends a special aloha to the Wai Wai Collective, the perfect place to host such a joyous event. “Wai Wai Collective lives the value of mālama ʻāina, making sure that all products are re-usable so that we don’t contribute to waste,” said Paris. “I look forward to future events there.”

Makana added: “It has been an honor to collaborate with a like-minded candidate in Pohai Ryan. As future OHA Trustees, we share a common goal to serve as fiduciaries for the peoples’ trust – not as politicians. This will help us forge better relationships with communities across Hawai‘i as we work to rebuild trust in the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.”
