OHA Candidate Makana Paris attends Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi State Convention
WAIKOLOA — OHA At-Large candidate Makana Paris joined hundreds of other local Democrats for the Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi State Convention that took place on May 26 and 27 at the Hilton Waikoloa on Hawaiʻi Island, as party members gathered to converse, network and take action.
“Last week’s convention showed that Hawaiʻi has unparalleled potential to be a leader for Democracy. The changes we make now to strengthen the party are critical for the well-being of our environment and most importantly, our people,” Makana Paris said.
Makana Paris, a life-long member of the Democratic Party and the labor movement, enters his first campaign for public service in the non-partisan Office of Hawaiian Affairs At-Large election.
“The labor movement has been the backbone of the Democratic party for generations and the party has been invigorated by younger progressives.” said Makana Paris. “It was also inspiring to see the party rallying behind new leadership and I congratulate the new party chair, Kealiʻi Lopez, as she leads the party forward. Further, much mahalo to Tim Vandeveer, past Party Chair, for his inspirational leadership that encouraged many to join the Party. And lastly, mahalo to Kealiʻi Lopez, Tim Vandeveer, and fellow candidate for Chair Gloria Borland, for making a public commitment to the Party, that they would work together to better the Party and Hawaiʻi no matter the results of the Chair election.”
The event was a reminder that the state requires action-oriented leadership to move initiatives forward.
