State of Hawai‘i Organization of Police Officers Endorses Makana Paris for OHA At-Large
HONOLULU — The State of Hawai‘i Organization of Police Officers officially endorses Makana Paris for OHA Trustee At-Large.
SHOPO represents police officers from Maui County, Kauai, Hawai‘i County, and Honolulu. It is the only democratically organized union in Hawai‘i, which makes its decision to endorse Makana Paris for OHA Trustee At-Large all the more impressive. Founded in 1972, SHOPO now engages in both advocacy and public outreach, hosting surf and bowling tournaments across the state.
“I am proud to support a local boy of Polynesian descent getting educated and coming back to serve,” said Malcolm Lutu, current President of SHOPO.
“I have great respect for the work of Hawai‘i’s law enforcement officers,” said Makana Paris. “In a time when structural injustices disproportionately target minorities across the country, including Native Hawaiians, it is important to continue to build bridges and to work with our law enforcement brothers and sisters to address these issues.”
