Jul 1, 2018

HONOLULU — The Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi, a grassroots environmental organization with over 16,000 members and supporters, have officially endorsed Makana Paris for the OHA At-Large seat.

The Sierra Club’s priorities include water security, energy independence, food security, a zero waste future, and defending special places.

“The Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi has endorsed Makana Paris’ candidacy for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs in 2018, in appreciation of his commitment to protecting the environment. The Sierra Club is putting faith in Makana Paris to help sustain Hawaiʻi’s beautiful environment for generations to come,” wrote Jonathan Likeke Scheuer, Chair of the Political Committee, Sierra Club, Hawaiʻi Chapter.

Makana Paris’ extensive experience working with the legislature and advocacy groups on labor and environmental issues continues to bring together organizations and union support as a first-time candidate. The Sierra Club is the first major environmental organization to join his list of endorsements.  Their endorsement is a show of faith that Makana Paris will help OHA find solutions to rebuild the trust that also sustain Hawaii’s beautiful environment for generations to come.

“I look forward to working with the Sierra Club to establish strong environmental and sustainable initiatives that contribute to better housing, jobs, education and healthcare, something Native Hawaiians have understood for generations through aloha ʻāina and malama ʻāina practices.” said Makana Paris.
